Project Brief

Uber, the popular ride-sharing app, has joined forces with Joby Aviation, a company specializing in the design and development of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, to launch its first air-based service, called Elevate. The two companies are working together to develop a four-person autonomous air transport system for urban areas, and they plan to unveil the new aircraft and the Uber service during an upcoming technology conference in Los Angeles. The CEO's of each company will take the stage together for a joint presentation, accompanied by a 10-slide presentation projected behind them.

As part of the marketing team at Joby, you have been tasked with helping the event planners design the layout of the stage and the presentation. The marketing director at Joby has provided you with an outline for the 10-slide presentation, as well as notes on the stage layout. They are hoping to incorporate lighting, projections, or large stage objects to create an exciting and engaging experience for the audience.

The conference events team has asked for your input on the stage setup. They would like a simple floorplan-style layout, as well as some concept images to help them understand the overall look and feel of the stage. The team will handle all on-site setup of equipment, lighting, and audio-visuals, so all you need to provide are concept mockups.

The presentation will be brief and primarily consist of graphics to accompany a verbal talk track.

Designing Slide Decks

  2. Keep it simple and concise: Your sales deck should be easy to understand and to the point. Avoid cluttering your slides with too much text or unnecessary graphics. Use visuals and diagrams to help explain complex concepts.
  3. Use a consistent design: Use a consistent color palette, font, and layout throughout your sales deck to create a professional and polished look. A consistent design can also help reinforce your brand identity and make it easier for your audience to follow along.
  4. End with a clear call to action: Make sure you have a clear call to action at the end of your sales deck, such as a request for a meeting or a trial. Provide contact information so your audience can easily get in touch with you.
Live Event Design Tip

Event graphic is a bit of a catch all category for all of the various elements that need to be designed for live marketing and conference events. These can range from designing slides and projections, to developing 'living-room' style conference booths and hacker houses, to creating campaign swag to take over a conference. The best way to approach these kinds of projects is in phases: a concept phase and a production phase. The concept phase is important because it allow you to create a unified set of assets and visualize them together. But, unlike make other types of graphic design, the production phase can be complicated since you will need to coordinate and deliver design materials in a bunch of different formats wills loads of unforeseen constraints. A top tip here is to avoid too much complexity too early before understand the parameters and limits of the event or production.
